Greetings
and
happy holidays from all of us at the Coney Island
Lighthouse Mission.
As
winter
sets in, our organization
is facing
unprecedented
challenges.
Hurricane Sandy has left us crippled and unable to help the community as we
have for the past 10 years. The flooding swept into the mission,
destroying all our equipment, food storage, and even the walls.
The services provided here are needed more than ever while this community
recovers from the lingering effects of the storm. With your help we can
once again be the place to turn for people in need in Coney Island.
Please click on the donate button to help out. Every little bit is
greatly appreciated. Thanks and God bless.
Coney Island Lighthouse Mission has raised
about a third of the $100,000 it needs to rebuild—enough to buy some appliances
and resume its food pantry's and soup kitchen's full schedule. >>>>>

The Coney
Island Lighthouse Mission is dedicated to fighting hunger and poverty in
our community through the many services we provide to those in need.
For those families in need of food, we distribute free grocery bags two
days a week and serve hot meals to the public every Friday. Our
after-school program began in 2007 and provides homework assistance and
tutoring, hot snacks, games, art projects, and bible study for students
aged 5-13 Monday-Friday. We are open five days a week to receive new
clients, provide information, and make appointments for free benefits
screening with a social worker on-site. In addition, the Lighthouse
Mission conducts special holiday outreach programs such as distributing
hundreds of Thanksgiving turkeys in the community.
Our
mission is to meet the immediate needs of our clients while offering
additional, necessary services to help move families toward
self-sufficiency. We provide ESL and GED training, drug and alcohol
counseling, housing for several formerly homeless clients, job readiness
training, and information on public benefits to reduce the dependence on
emergency food. We want to be known as the place to go for anyone in
need in our community!
